Ringling Brothers’ Newest Arrival
The Ringling Brother’s family is proud to introduce their newest member, April, a healthy female Asian elephant, born April 3, 2010. She is the twenty-third birth from the most successful elephant breeding program in the Western Hemisphere, The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey’s Center for Elephant Conservation. This year the center is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary.
The center was founded in 1995 to “preserve the endangered Asian elephant species by focusing on the research, reproduction and retirement of captive Asian elephants.” Each calf born is paired with a team of veterinarians and elephant husbandry specialists that will monitor and care the elephants as they mature.
The Ringling Brothers currently cares for 54 Asian elephants, which is the largest herd in the Western Hemisphere.
